I teach AP Economics and War and Peace in History at Wissahickon High School.
AP Economics is a full year college level economics course. In may the students take an AP exam that can result in college credit for their high school work in the course. Learning economics teaches you how to look at the world with a new set of eyes. You start looking at opportunity costs and unintended consequences of actions.
War and Peace in History is a semester long course in military history. We look at strategy and tactics, the evolution of war, the consequences of war, and alternatives to war. We do several simulations over the semester: a Napoleonic battle, a geo-political resource conflict, and peace treaty negotiations. There is no textbook for War and Peace. We read The Art of War, by Sun Tzu, and All Quiet on the Western Front.
